Suspect Arrested For Break-In At Houghton Hardware Store

UPDATE: Suspect’s name released:  Isaac Laplander, 40, of Houghton was arraigned Friday in the 97th District Court by Judge Mark Wisti. He was charged with a 10-year felony Breaking and Entering a Building with Intent, and a 5-year felony Malicious Destruction of a Building. His bail was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for January 9th at 10 am, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 18th at 10 am.

A suspect is in custody for allegedly breaking into Swift’s True Value Hardware of Houghton.

The City of Houghton Police Department says the incident happened sometime Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning.

Swifts True Value Hardware is located on Shelden Avenue in downtown Houghton.

Search warrants were issued and executed on a suspect’s home believed to be involved in the incident.

An arrest warrant was issued for a male suspect who was taken into custody by the Houghton Police Department with assistance from the Hancock Police Department.

He is being held at the Houghton County Jail pending arraignment on a count of breaking and entering a building with intent, a 10 year felony, and malicious destruction, a 5 year felony.
