Tamburitzans Coming Back To Calumet Theater

TamburitzansCalumet-Laurium-Keweenaw Rotary Club proudly presents The Tamburitzans at the Calumet Theatre on August 10th at 7:00 pm. Returning for over 70 years, the Tamburitzans is the longest running annual show at the Calumet Theatre. CLK Rotary sponsors the show to keep this great Copper Country tradition alive and as a fund raiser for its varied projects, including two Vocational College Scholarships for graduating seniors in Calumet and Lake Linden.

Wherever the Tamburitzans perform, their stage becomes a kaleidoscope of sight and sound. Songs are sung in many languages and dialects. Footwork is articulated in hundreds of styles. Folk instruments are plucked, picked, bowed and hammered. Costuming alone is a great reason to see the show. During a single performance, over 400 original and authentically reproduced costumes are worn by the performers.

Ensemble members are not professionals; each one is a full-time student at Duquesne University, studying in the academic field of his or her choice. Over the next few years the Tamburitzans’ ensemble will become a non-profit organization, separate from Duquesne University. They have already begun the transition by adding big screen digital displays and other stage props to their energetic performance.

To purchase tickets for this exceptionally talented group, contact the Calumet Theatre Box Office Monday through Friday from 12 – 5 pm and two and a half hours until show time or from any CLK Rotary member. Theatre tickets are $20 for adults and $9 for students ages 18 and under. Rotarians are offering tickets at $16 for adults.

The CLK Rotary extends thanks to the community for supporting this annual show, used as major fund raiser for their scholarship program.
