The Vault Hotel & Superior Fab Lab Presenting At 1 Million Cups

The next 1 Million Cups event is Wednesday at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.

1 Million Cups is a fun way to stay connected to community, think about innovative ideas, and to find out about and support entrepreneurship in our area.

This month’s theme is New Companies and will feature The Vault Hotel, which is getting ready to launch a luxe boutique hotel in a historic bank building in downtown Houghton. The Vault is in the process of completing the construction to meet their expected Spring 2019 launch.

The event will also feature Superior Fab Lab, a proposed cooperative Fabrication Laboratory with a focus on enabling and educating makers of all ages. Over the next few months, they hope to add key members to their organization, provide free training opportunities to the community, and to complete their non-profit business status so they might go after proper funding.

The event gets underway at 8:30am and the coffee is free, provided by 5th & Elm of Houghton.

Created by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is a free entrepreneurial program designed to support entrepreneurs to connect and network within their own community for resources such as equipment, talent, space, and ideas. The audience listens to a pitch and then provides insight regarding new ways to think about one’s business and offers invaluable feedback from the customer and stakeholder perspective.

In keeping with the Kauffman vision, the atmosphere is supportive and friendly. 1 Million Cups dubs itself as more of a “dolphin tank” than a “shark tank.” Businesses that are younger than five years old are invited to apply to present.
