Three-Week Statewide COVID Pause Begins Today

Michigan’s COVID-19 pause begins today.

New restrictions on activities that bring groups of people into close contact are designed to slow the explosive growth of the coronavirus infection rate in the state.

For the next three weeks…
• Masks must continue to be worn in all public situations, indoors and outdoors.
• All high schools and colleges will move to online instruction.
• Theaters, bowling centers, ice rinks, casinos and similar facilities will be closed.
• Restaurants and bars may offer takeout service only.
• Group fitness classes are canceled, but gyms may continue to offer individual workouts.
• Those who can work from home, must.

Nearly 7,500 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in Michigan yesterday, along with 79 more deaths.

The Portage Lake District Library will close its building for the duration of the three week Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Epidemic Order.

Library Director Dillon Geshel said the state is not requiring libraries to close, but the staff feels it’s the right thing to do.

Curbside and online services will continue.

The Hancock School Public Library, which is operated by the Portage Lake District Library, will be open limited hours, weekdays between 10:00 and 4:00.
