Two Boaters Rescued on Portage Lake

Two people were rescued by the Houghton County Sheriff’s department early Thursday, after their boat became stranded at the entrance to Chassell Bay on Portage Lake.

Deputies were alerted to the situation at 12:18 a.m., after the U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call. They responded in the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Boat, Marine 1.

The disabled vessel and the two people aboard were secured, and towed by Marine 1 to the Houghton waterfront.

No injuries were reported. The names of the boaters have not been released.
