Two Public Hearings Being Held For Proposed Ordinances

Residents of the city of Houghton are invited to attend a pair of public hearings on proposed ordinances.

The City of Houghton Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding proposed Ordinance 2019-300 at its meeting on August 20th at 5:30 p.m.

This proposed ordinance amends Chapter 62 regarding solid waste to: reorganize the chapter, set forth the process for collection of garbage, recyclables, and rubbish, and require the contents of all dumpsters in the city to be collected and properly disposed of at least once every 14 days

The Houghton City Council will hold a public hearing regarding proposed ordinance 2019-299 at its meeting on August 14th.

This proposed ordinance is to rezone a parcel of land in west Houghton from R-1 single family residential to B-3 general business district.

The rezoning is part of the process to provide a location for a new Meijer store.

The public hearings are a chance for the council to receive public comments on the proposed ordinance.

Copies of the proposed ordinances are available at the Houghton City Clerk’s Office or from the city’s website.
