Two Snowmobilers Killed In Head-On Collision

Two snowmobilers are dead after a head-on collision in Gogebic County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, along with Deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, were dispatched to the accident Friday around 7:12pm.  The accident happened on Lake Gogebic near the Lake Gogebic State Park, about 500 feet from shore.

A 23 year old man from Riverton, Illinois collided head-on with a snowmobile driven by a 53 year old man from Darwin, Minnesota. CPR was initiated on both individuals before first responders arrived. Once medical personnel arrived, both males were pronounced dead at the scene.

Accident Investigators from the Wakefield State Police Post and Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene for further investigation.

Speed and alcohol are both believed to have played a role in the accident.

Names are being withheld at this time until next of kin are notified. Troopers were assisted on scene by Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, Beacon Ambulance, Marenisco First Responders and Marenisco Township Fire Department.
