Two Trials Set For Atlantic Mine Drug Suspect

An Atlantic Mine man has two trials scheduled in the coming months.

47-year-old Steven John Ruotsala appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court Monday for a pretrial regarding a felony domestic violence 3rd offense charge.

His attorney indicated he may make a motion concerning an evidentiary issue in the case, dealing with the 5th Amendment and a statement made by the defendant.

A trial is scheduled on May 3rd on that charge.

Ruotsala has another trial set for March 8th for Delivery or Manufacture of Meth, a 20 year felony.

The charges stem from an incident last October when deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint and discovered a “substantial amount” of crystal meth during the investigation.

Ruotsala remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $1 million bond.
