U.P. Firefighters Tourney Opens Today

Firefighters from across the Upper Peninsula are gathering in the Copper Country for this year’s Volunteer Firefighters Tournament.

The 127th edition of the tourney is being hosted by the Calumet Township Fire Department.

Activities begin with a fire chiefs meeting this morning, and a firefighters association meeting this afternoon. Both will be held at the Colosseum. The Dress Parade will begin at 7 this evening, and will travel from Red Jacket Road northerly on 5th Street to the corner of 4th and Elm. An outdoor dance will follow at the Colosseum parking lot, with music by Rewind. The tongue-in-cheek Nightshirt Parade will begin at 10 at the corner of 4th and Elm, and head southerly along 5th Street back to the Colosseum.

The firefighters games will take place tomorrow, with the Firefighters Ball tomorrow night. The tournament will conclude with the Commercial Parade Saturday at 11. The public is welcome at all the events.
