Veterans Day Observances Planned

Today is Veterans Day, and several observances are planned across the Copper Country.

At Houghton High School, the JROTC cadets will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony in the gym. The community is welcome. They asked that those attending be seated by 11:00 a.m., for a ceremony that  will last approximately 45 minutes. Community members and veterans from all branches of the armed forces are welcome.

At Hancock High School, community members and veterans are invited to join middle and high school students at 11:00 in the gym. Speakers will include veterans Jeff Hauswirth and Mr. Zackary Ohtonen, who will answer questions at the end of the ceremony. American Legion Post 186 will provide the color guard. Veterans are invited to stay afterward for a pasty lunch with high school students.

Baraga Schools will host an assembly this morning at 8:30 in the school gym. L’Anse Schools will hold an assembly at 10:00, with lunch following. Larry Gasperich will be the guest speaker.

Because of the federal holiday, many government offices and financial institutions will be closed.
