Village of L’Anse Updates

The Village of L’Anse is already trying to plan for a loss in state funding because of COVID-19 expenses.

At last night’s meeting Village Manager Bob LaFave told council members that the potential drop will need to be factored into next year’s budget.

The village finance committee will begin the budget process within the next week or so.

Despite that, LaFave told the council that some road maintenance money might yet be available from the Michigan Department of Transportation – money that could help with the badly-needed repaving of L’Anse Avenue.

The council voted to proceed with a request for money for L’Anse Avenue, and for Baraga Avenue, as well.

If the state money is available, both projects could be undertaken next summer.

If funds are not available, the L’Anse Avenue project will be completed this summer, with the village covering the entire cost.

The L’Anse council’s next meeting has been rescheduled from May 25th to May 26th, to avoid the Memorial Day holiday.
