Volunteers Needed For Hancock Beach Clean Up–Rain Or Shine

In other business at Wednesday’s Hancock City Council meeting, Superior AmeriCorps is teaming up with the City of Hancock to clean up Hancock Beach and do restoration work this Saturday.

The effort will carry on rain or shine and they need volunteers.

Over 80 people have already signed up but additional volunteers are welcome to show up on Saturday.

Work is scheduled to begin at 9am.

Hancock City Manager Glenn Anderson said the city met with Portage Lake Multi-Ed, the organization that manages the Houghton County Arena, concerning the possibility of acquiring the arena from the county.

Anderson said he does not believe it would be in the city’s best interest to do so.

Students from Michigan State University will be in the area this June.  They will be conducting a transit survey.

The survey will be done with the Michigan Department of Transportation to assess customer satisfaction and trip purpose of transit riders.
