West Iron Teacher Resigns After Misconduct Allegation

A West Iron County School District teacher has resigned after allegations of unprofessional conduct.

In a statement released yesterday, Superintendent Kevin Schmutzler said the teacher had been placed on paid administrative leave when an investigation into the allegation was begun, and stepped down January 4th, before the investigation was completed.

The teacher has not been identified. No details about the allegation have been made public, including the subjects or grade levels at which the teacher taught.

Schmutzler said information about the allegation was immediately shared with the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police. Their investigation continues.

He added that the school cannot release additional information, because of the ongoing investigation, and privacy concerns for those involved.

Schumtzler said that a variety of support options are available for students who might have been affected by the situation. He encouraged parents to contact the school office if their children need support.
