Whitmer Discusses New U.P. Veterans Home

Governor Gretchen Whitmer touted the state’s commitment to building a new home for veterans in Marquette yesterday.

Speaking at the current D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Whitmer noted that the state’s new budget includes money to construct that facility’s successor…

We’re going to replace it with a modern complex, with a neighborhood design, to make it feel and look more like a home and a community.

The current facility was opened 41 years ago.

The new complex will be modeled after two new facilities downstate, with a series of smaller buildings that will afford more privacy for residents.

Whitmer said the location for the new veterans home has not yet been selected.
