Whitmer Signs Low-Income Property Tax Assistance Bill

Low-income homeowners faced with losing their homes because of delinquent property taxes now have some new options.

Legislation signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer yesterday will enable homeowners to set up payment plans for back taxes, and reduce or eliminate interest, penalties and fees.

The Pay As You Stay program is designed to help lower the high foreclosure rate in the city of Detroit, but is effective across the state.

To qualify, a household with one person cannot make more than $19,303 per year, and a household with four people could not make more than $28,671.

If you think you could benefit from this, contact your county treasurer.
