Wisconsin Woman Dies Following Snowmobile Crash

A snowmobiler who was involved in an accident on January 17th has died from injuries she sustained in the crash.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the accident that happened on Trail 134 in Grant Township.

A snowmobile driven by 27-year-old Julie Mentink from Sheboygan, Wisconsin was traveling south along Trail #134 when she lost control coming around a corner.  The snowmobile went airborne and struck a tree.

Mentink was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance and later was transferred to a hospital out of the area where she later died from her injuries.

Assisting on the scene were the Ahmeek Village Off Road Rescue Unit, Copper Harbor and Lac La Belle medical first responders.

Speed is considered to be a factor in the crash but alcohol is not.
