Woman Stabbed At McLain State Park

A woman and her dog are recovering after being stabbed while at the beach at McLain’s State Park on Saturday.

Upon arrival, troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post determined the 27-year-old victim had been stabbed by the suspect twice with a knife.

Police say an altercation had occurred over a dog on the beach without a leash.

The owner of the dog says they were in an area of the beach where dogs can be off leash and the suspect attacked the dog without provocation, stabbing the animal in the neck.

The victim was reportedly stabbed twice while trying to protect the dog.

The victim suffered a large laceration to the abdomen area and a small puncture wound to the bicep.

The injuries were serious but described by police as not life threatening but did require immediate medical attention. The injury to the dog was also non-life threatening.

The victim was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium by Mercy Ambulance where she was treated and released.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and lodged at the Houghton County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The suspect’s name will not be released until she is arraigned in 97th District Court.
