Young Girl Injured In Rollover ORV Accident

A 12-year-old girl from Ahmeek was seriously injured in a rollover ORV accident on Sunday.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident just after 5:00pm on private property off 5 Mile Point Road in Allouez Township.

Authorities say the girl was driving a 2013 Arctic Cat Wildcat on a trail when she lost control while going around a corner.

The ORV flipped over and landed on the girl, trapping her underneath.

The driver’s younger sister, who was operating another ORV, witnessed the crash and called 911 and met rescuers at a local road and showed them to the scene.

Responders were able to lift the ORV off the girl, who was then taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance and later airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

An 11-year-old passenger on the ORV was uninjured.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by Ahmeek Off Road Rescue, Allouez Township Medical First Responders, Calumet Township Fire Department, and Mercy Amublance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
