M-STEP Test Remains For Now

While they aren’t on the same page, on paper, subcommittees in the Michigan House and Michigan Senate are both on board with eliminating the state’s M-STEP standardized test.

State Senator Goeff Hansen says it took too long to administer the test last year and by the time testing results were available they were outdated.

He’d like to shift to an online exam that provides immediate testing results.

A Senate committee passed along its budget recommendation’s Wednesday.

Disposing of M-STEP isn’t part of that chamber’s budget, however Hansen says he’s open to doing so.

A House subcommittee made education budget recommendations Tuesday that include doing away with M-STEP.
