Marquette County Road Commissioner Announces Candidacy for the 109th District Democratic Primary

Marquette County’s Road Commissioner has tossed his hat in the ring for Michigan’s 109th house district. Earlier this week Marquette Road Commissioner Randy Girard announced at a Marquette township council meeting his intent to run for the 109th district in the 2024 Democratic Primary election. Girard cited recent legislative action by the state as his reasoning, adding that current representation does not fully represent the full range of desires of residents. Girard has 37 years of experience working for local governments. Including 19 years as Marquette Township’s manager. He has also been on the Municipal Employees Retirements System of Michigan Board of Directors for 14 years.

Girard will run against current representative Jen Hill in the 2024 Democratic primary election next August.

The 109th house district now includes Baraga County following the state redistricting that was finalized in December 2021. You can find Girard’s full statement for his candidacy announcement here.
