MDOT Earns Regional Transportation Award for the US-41 Houghton Project

The Michigan Department of Transportation earns a regional award for a small project improving the quality of life at the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards. Recently the Mid-America Association of State Transportation Officials held the annual America’s Transportation Award competition. The organization selected 27 projects nominated by nine state departments of transportation for the contest. The Michigan Department of Transportation earned the small project quality of life award for the US-41 College Avenue project in Houghton. The one-hundred-year-old road was completely replaced with infrastructure improvements. The roadway added a center turning lane, creating a safer road configuration and leading to a better flow of traffic. The 9.6 million dollar project was a part of the state’s 3.5 billion dollars spent on road improvements in 2022, the most spent on infrastructure in Michigan’s history. Michigan also received an award for a small project in the safety category for the US 31 M 72  project in Acme.
