Michigan Harvest Gathering Collects Enough For 2.1 Million Meals

The Food Bank Council of Michigan says they’ve collected enough in donations to provide 2.1 million meals for families in need since kicking off its annual collection campaign in September.

The Michigan Harvest Gathering 25th Annual Giving Campaign has reached almost $400,000 in donations and 300,000 pounds of food.

Food Bank Council of Michigan executive president, Phillip Knight, says it’s exciting to see how people have rallied to the cause this year.

Knight says the need is a bit different this year. He says it’s not just people who have struggled in poverty for generations, now they are seeing more of the working poor.

He says that makes the work of the food banks even more important to the working families trying to pull themselves out of poverty.

Since being established in 1991, the Michigan Harvest Gathering has raised over 54 million meals for those in need.
