Michigan State Police To Take Part In Food Gathering Events

Troopers from the Michigan State Police-Calumet Post and two local grocery stores will be working together to host two “STUFF A BLUE GOOSE” charity events.

The events are being held as part of the 2015 Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign.

The purpose is to raise hunger awareness and to provide food to local food pantries.

This year is the 25th anniversary of this campaign which runs from October 19th through October 30th.

Troopers will be at Econo Foods in Houghton and Pat’s Foods in Calumet to assist in the collection of donated food items and to answer questions regarding the food drive.

A “BLUE GOOSE” patrol car will be at the sites to haul donated items to local food pantries at the conclusion of the events.

The first event will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Pats Foods in Calumet.

The second event will be held on Wednesday, October 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at Econo Foods in Houghton.

Both stores will have $5 grab bags available for the public to purchase and stuff in the “BLUE GOOSE”. Each bag will be pre-filled with non-perishable food items worth $10. Each grocery store is matching the $5 purchase with an additional $5 worth of items to be donated to our food pantries.

There is a significant need for food items in our local pantries and the participation and involvement from the public is greatly appreciated.
