Michigan’s Jobless Rate Holds Steady

The jobless rate in Michigan held steady during October, at five percent.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says total employment rose by 9,000 last month.

The number of unemployed rose by 3,000.

The state’s unemployment rate is 1.6 percent below its year-ago level of 6.6 percent.

The national jobless rate decreased by seven-tenths of a percentage point over the same period.

The state’s October unemployment rate matched the national rate.

The U.S. jobless rate declined slightly by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.0 percent from September to October.
