Mining Jobs Continue To Decline

Mining jobs continue to be on the decline nationwide.

That’s according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report on the employment situation for February released Friday.

The report shows that 19,000 jobs in the mining industry disappeared over the course of the month.

Since a recent peak in September of 2014, that industry has lost over 170,000 jobs.

The health care, social assistance, and retail industries were among those that fared better. Health care alone added nearly 40,000 workers.

The unemployment rate held steady at 4.9 percent, an eight-year low that began last month.
