More Than A Billion Pounds Of Copper In Copperwood Project

There is more than a billion pounds of copper in the Copperwood Project in Gogebic County, according to results of a mineral resource estimate released by Highland Copper Company.

The Canadian-based mining company said the report verifies a previous estimate by the former owner of the Copperwood Project, Orvana Minerals Corporation.

Highland acquired the project in 2014.

There is an estimated 1.06 billion pounds of copper and 4.2 million ounces of silver in the resource area.

The current mineral resource estimate is based on more than 1,700 tests from 324 diamond drill holes done by three companies between 1956 and 2013.

Highland’s plans for 2015 include looking at the possibility of combining Copperwood along with its White Pine North and Keweenaw projects to streamline the process, save costs and reduce the impact on the environment.

This study is planned to be completed by year-end, subject to the availability of necessary financing.
