Motorcycle Ride Raises Domestic Violence Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home in Baraga is holding a special event in honor of the cause. The event is called “Ride Against Abuse” and it will feature a motorcycle ride through the Copper Country. Event organizer Mary Niemela says with the issue of domestic violence currently in the national spotlight, awareness to the matter needs to be at an all-time high.

The ride will begin at 6 o’clock at the AmericInn in Calumet and will conclude at the Chutes and Ladders Parking Lot in Houghton. If you are unable to be in the race, organizers ask that you line the streets of Houghton and Hancock and show your support for those riding against abuse.
