NMU to Build Welcome Center

Fritz EricksonNorthern Michigan University will be building a new Welcome Center. The building will be underwritten by a donation from Dr. John Beaumier. NMU President Fritz Erickson said preparatory work will begin this summer, but construction¬†probably won’t start until next summer. The first step will be to decide where on campus the building will be placed. Once completed, it will provide a central place for people to get information about the university. It will also house the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center, a museum that preserves the history and culture of the U.P.

Michigan Tech recently opened a similar facility. The John Edgar McAllister Welcome Center
was built into – and onto – the Memorial Union Building.
