No Fault Reformers Continue Effort

The effort by Republicans to push through a measure to reform Michigan’s auto no-fault insurance law continues to struggle, as Democrats oppose the effort as being unfair to motorists and some fellow Republicans also won’t sign on.

The insurance industry says the current system is plagued with unsustainable costs, along with a high rate of non-compliance in Detroit.

Does this mean there will be an effort to tie the proposal to other unrelated bills? Not if House Republican Tom Leonard has his way.

He chairs the House Insurance Committee.

Leonard says Proposal 1, which tied road funding to a variety of other issues, was shot down by a disgusted electorate.

He says the legislature should take that as a message to avoid bundling a variety of issues into one package.
