Opposition To Prop 1 Voicing Their Opinion

Groups opposed to Prop 1 took to the statehouse Wednesday to lobby lawmakers against the ballot proposal.

Paul Mitchell with the Coalition Against Higher Taxes and Special Interest Deals led the charge at a rally on the East lawn of the capitol encouraging people to go office-to-office and state their case against Prop 1.

The ballot proposal, if approved by voters next month, would increase the sales tax to fund road repairs.

Mitchell believes the anti-prop 1 movement is growing stronger by the day. “We’re going to keep them down while we can, we’re going to keep talking about why this is such a bad deal for the taxpyers and really doesn’t get to fixing our roads either,” said Mitchell.

However House Minority Leader Tim Greimel, a Democrat of Auburn Hills, says Prop 1 goes beyond funding road repairs. He says the proposal would also help fund education and provide tax relief to middle class families in Michigan.

Voters will head to the polls on May 5th to vote on Prop 1.
