PACE Financial District Preparations Underway For Houghton County

A new way for local residents to pay for the initial costs of going green could be coming to Houghton County.

The County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the effort from Levin Energy Partners Clean Energy Project Manager Kyle Peczynski.

It’s called a Property Assessed Clean Energy Financing District which provides access to long-term financing for property owners to convert to clean energy sources.

The loan would either be paid directly to a private lender or the amount would be applied to the property tax bill and collected by the townships then passed on to the lender.

The County Board had previously passed a resolution of intent but requested some clarification in the language of the proposal that granted exclusive rights for managing the district to Levin Energy Partners.

Peczynski said he would remove that language and provide the Commissioners with an updated copy by the end of the week.

If approved, the next step would be to schedule a public hearing on the issue.
