Public Hearings Set For Houghton DDA & TIFA Plan Extensions

At their regular meeting Wednesday, the Houghton City Ccouncil set public hearings for June 22nd to take public comment on amendments to the DDA and TIFA Plans to extend the plans until 2040.

In othe business, the council passed a resolution allowing employees to use Thrivent Financial as another option for deferred compensation accounts.

The council authorized the City Manager Eric Waara to submit a grant application to the MEDC for infrastructure grant to do water, sewer, and paving on Lakeshore Drive from the Bridge to Dee Stadium. Total grant will be approximately $1,000,000 with an 11 percent match from the city.

The council approved a request from LSPR Rally to allow the final leg of their race to be held on October 15th from the Super 8 Motel to the Medical Arts building on Lakeshore Drive. The road will be closed and the area will be closed off with concrete barriers during the race for protection of people watching. The race will take place from approximately 6-9 pm.

The council set a public hearing regarding the 2016-17 budget for Wednesday, June 8th at 5:30 p.m.

The council approved the use of the Kestner Park for the Sisu Challenge and Brewfest on August 27th.

The council approved the purchase of a cab and chassis for a new sander of up to $120,000.
