Another effort has surfaced in Michigan to move the speed limit on some freeways to 80 miles per hour. House Republican Brad Jacobsen of Oxford is proposing that freeways in less populated areas be designated as “rural freeways” that may have speed limits of up to 80 miles per hour. Earlier proposals to allow speeds of up to 80 have gone nowhere in the Michigan Legislature. A companion proposal would eliminate points for speeding up to five miles per hour over the limit.
