Rules On Charitable Gaming Events Debate Continues

The debate over “millionaire parties,” “Texas Holdem” and other charitable gaming events heats up again in Lansing Wednesday.

A Michigan Senate Committee may vote on a proposal to codify current “emergency rules” regarding the events.

The proposal is supported by the Michigan Charitable Gaming Association, which represents non-profit groups.

State gaming regulators have said the events sometimes have gotten out of hand, and other times are not even raising money for charitable groups.

As a result, the state regulators could shut down all of the operations when the emergency rules expire in early July.

The charitable gaming group says the current “emergency rules” are far from perfect, but they at least will allow them to continue operating.
