Senate Republican Bills Would Cut Red Tape For Schools

A group of Republican lawmakers introduced bills Tuesday they say will cut red tape for Michigan schools.

Senator Phil Pavlov, the main sponsor, says the goal of the legislation is to eliminate duplicative reporting requirements.

He says under the bill package, many of the required reports would be erased or replaced by online posting.

The bills are supported by several school superintendents.

Ken Gutman, superintendent of Walled Lake Consolidated Schools says getting rid of the unnecessary reporting requirements will allow educators to spend more time preparing students for careers and college.

Tom Livezey, superintendent of Riverview Community Schools says the bills also change how schools collect information so they won’t duplicate efforts.
