Senate Resolutions Urge Congress to Restore Funding for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

A Michigan lawmaker says she wants to make sure Congress doesn’t back off support for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

State Senator Rebekah Warren says the initiative that funds clean up and restoration of ecosystems in the Great Lakes region has proven successful.

She says since the initiative launched in 2010 it supported more than two-thousand projects that restored more than 115,000 acres of fish and wildlife habitat.

Warren is backing two resolutions to urge Congress to fully restore funding for the initiative to $300 million for 2016.

Both resolutions await action in the Senate.
