Should Parents Have A Say In Their Child's Gender Identity?

LGBTQ-BathroomWhen your children return to school in the fall, what will be their district’s policy regarding transgender students?

Senator Tom Casperson has already introduced legislation in response to proposed guidelines by the Michigan State Board of Education.

One of Casperson’s sticking points is that the guidelines exclude parents from the child’s decision, something that Keweenaw Pride spokesperson Leo Reichstetter supports.

Reichstetter, a transgender student at Michigan Tech, says studies show that a child’s gender identity is formed by the time they are two years old, and so they shouldn’t have to wait to become adults to begin living accordingly.

Casperson’s legislation has been met with mixed reaction, with some comparing it to a similar law passed in North Carolina.
