Should Renters Have To Pay Bed Bug Cleaning Bill?

A Michigan House committee is debating who should be on the hook to pay to get rid of bed bugs if there’s an infestation – the landlord or the tenant.

A bill currently before the House Judiciary Committee would put the onus on the tenant.

But some lawmakers question if that’s fair considering bed bugs can hide behind baseboards and wall covers making it tough to prove who brought the bed bugs in, the current renter or the previous one.

Bed bugs can also live up to a year without eating.
