Alligator Gar Being Used To Combat Asian Carp

The once feared Alligator Gar has been introduced to various water-ways around the country to combat Asian Carp.

Shed Aquarium Research Scientist Solimon David says it’s the fish’s appearance that mostly intimated people.

David says Asian Carp haven’t invaded the Great Lakes due to an electrical barrier keeping them at bay, but they do damage eco-systems by competing with native fish for food.

He also says Michigan has three species of Gar that are native to the state.
