Canadian Officials Criticize Line 5 Shutdown Order

Some Canadian officials are unhappy with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s order to shut down the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline.

Ontario Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines Greg Rickford said the shutdown will put more than 4,900 jobs at risk, while putting Ontario and Michigan’s daily energy supply in jeopardy.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney called it an effort to landlock Canadian energy. The petroleum product Line 5 carries originates in Alberta.

Along with supplying propane to the Upper Peninsula and aviation fuel for the Detroit area, Line 5 is the biggest source of crude for gasoline in southern Ontario.
