Cities Protected From Sidewalk Injury Lawsuits

By saying that sidewalk defects are “open and obvious,” Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation that will protect cities from lawsuits from those who trip and fall on sidewalks.

Supporters say cities pay millions a year in sidewalk-injury settlements and should be able to use the same defense that’s available to businesses.

Opponents say the bill effectively make cities immune in all instances.
