Construction On Roundabouts In Marquette Begins Next Week

Construction on two more roundabouts is set to begin in Marquette Township on US 41/M-28 between Marquette County Road 492 to just west of Brickyard Road, extending the existing boulevard.

The project includes replacing signalized intersections with roundabouts at Brickyard Road and at CR 492 near Walmart and Target, along with constructing indirect left-turn lanes, or “Michigan Lefts.” A new multi-use tunnel will be constructed beneath the highway, just west of CR 492.

Westbound lanes will be shifted north to accommodate the divided highway. Two lanes will be open in each direction for much of the project.

Later stages will have eastbound traffic reduced to one lane and there will be a brief period where westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane near Brickyard Road.

Motorists should expect delays for traffic shifts, lane closures and temporary traffic signals.

Drivers will also need to be aware of temporary changes to local business access via local road detours or temporary drives.

Work is scheduled to begin next week and be completed by next summer.
