EPA Stands Behind Tougher Fuel Economy Standards

The Environmental Protection Administration is standing behind plans to increase fuel economy standards to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.

This is part of a mandated review of those standards, and a move applauded by Shannon Baker-Branstetter of Consumers Union.

Car-makers have been seeking to have the standards eased, saying they could make vehicles more expensive.

The final decision will not be made until 2018.
