First Legislative Session Of 2017 In Lansing Today

The 99th legislative session begins at the Michigan Capitol today. Session will begin at noon.

The new class of representatives, including 40 freshman reps, will be sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen Markman.

The new House speaker will be Tom Leonard from Dewitt.

Among the issues sure to come up this year include a rollback of the state income tax and possible changes in the teacher retirement system.
