Graduation Numbers Will Drop As Birth Rate Declines

Fewer high school students in Michigan will mean fewer high school graduates, according to a national study.

The graduation rate is expected to decline in the years ahead as the result of a lower birth rate, according to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.

In fact, next year will see the sharpest decline between 2014 and 2023.

For Michigan, there will an increase in Hispanic students, while African-American rates will remain flat, with a decline in white students.
