Healthy Michigan Work Requirements Letters in the Mail

More than 238,000 people enrolled in the Healthy Michigan Plan will begin receiving letters this week explaining what they need to do to comply with the program’s new work requirements.

Beginning January 1st, enrollees will be required to spend 80 hours per month either working, or taking part in other qualifying activities, such as school.

Those who are physically unable to work, pregnant women, and those taking care of young or disabled children are exempt.

The letter will explain the requirements, and the reporting process.

The work requirement is being challenged in court. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has asked the legislature to delay implementing the work requirement until the case is decided. The legislature has declined.
