Mid-Michigan Man Injured In Snowmobile Accident In Alger County

A snowmobiler was injured in Alger County Sunday when he collided with another vehicle.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on H-58, about 2 miles east of Melstrand.

Authorities say 37-year-old Travis Joe Ross of Charlotte, MI was traveling eastbound on H-58 at a high rate of speed.

Ross then struck a snowmobile trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck also traveling eastbound on H-58.   Ross was ejected from the snowmobile and came to rest about 100 feet away.

Ross was taken to UP Health Systems–Marquette where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Excessive speed and careless operation of a snowmobile are the main contributing factors of the accident.

Alger County EMS assisted at the scene.
