Penalty Lessened For Underage Drinking

The state house has voted to lessen the penalty for underage drinking, making a first offense a civil infraction instead of a misdemeanor crime.

The maximum fine would remain unchanged at $100, and minors may still have to get substance abuse help.

In 2014, there were about 9,300 first-offense convictions for underage drinking.
