Reading Legislation Signed Into Law

Legislation requiring schools to hold-back 3rd-graders who are more than a grade level behind in the reading has been signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder.

Republican Amanda Price of Ottawa County says the provisions go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year.

Not all third-graders who are behind would be held back, though.

The new law allows parents to request an exemption to allow their child to move on to the fourth grade.
