State Clarifies Plan for Flavored E-Cig Ban

Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s plan to ban flavored electronic cigarettes in Michigan has been clarified.

While the initial release earlier this week said the ban would take effect immediately, that will not be the case. Instead, the state health department is preparing emergency rules that will prohibit the sale of flavored nicotine products, and will regulate labeling on other products. The rules should be ready within the next several weeks. Once they are posted, retailers will have 30 days to sell remaining stocks.

Whitmer’s order has drawn praise from health officials, and even from some Republican leaders in the Michigan House and Senate. Vaping industry groups are crying foul, though, and could sue to try to stop the ban.
